DIBRUGARH: The State Bank of India, Dibrugarh branch inaugurated the celebration for completion of 100 years at Dibrugarh district library on Monday.
A free health camp and a blood donation camp was organized in conection with the 100-years celebrations.
A Shrandhanjali programme in remembrance of departed employees was organized.
“The dawn of May 1, 1923 ushered a new beginning in our country’s financial landscape with the establishment of first ever bank branch of North East India in the town of Dibrugarh, a place which is rich in natural resources as well as in culture.”
“This historic event heralded a new era of development of banking industry in the region. Since then, this nascent institution with a modest beginning has tested the waters of change and went through many crests and troughs over a period of a century,” Anshuman Bordoloi, chief manager of Dibrugarh SBI branch.
In May 1, 1923, the Imperial Bank of India was first opened in Dibrugarh. It was the first bank of northeast India.
The branch felicitated old bank customers during the programme.
