State Commission assesses xatra land status in Darrang district

MANGALDAI: A delegation of Assam Satra’s Land Problems Review and Assessment Commission led by its chairman-cum-legislator Pradip Hazarika visited Darrang district on Thursday afternoon to assess the present land status of the xatras in the district. Later on the day, chairman Hazarika in presence of Rupak Sarma, one of the members of the commission, its member secretary Ashok Kr Barman, Deputy Commissioner, Darrang Munindra Nath Ngatey and other senior officials held a meeting with the Xatradhikars and office bearers of the management committee of altogether 28 Xatras of the district. The meeting mainly discussed about the encroachment and other relevant issues related to the land of the xatras. The chairman of the commission advised each of the xatra representatives to submit written statements of the brief history of their land. Later talking to media, he said that barring a couple of minor issues there is no major encroachment issue in the district. Sipajhar legislator Paramananda Rajbongshi was also present on the occasion.
