17 children rescued in Cachar
SILCHAR: Assam State Commission for protection for child rights held a press briefing at the conference hall of Circuit House, Silchar on Thursday, where media persons from different houses of print and electronic media attended.
Addressing the media persons, Ajoy Kumar Dutta, Member of Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights said, "As per the direction of Supreme Court, The Assam State Commission for Protection for child rights and National Commission for Protection for child rights took an initiative to rescue children followed by identification and rehabilitation of those children."
He informed that as a part of the rescue drive in Cachar district on Thursday, both Assam State Commission for Protection for child rights along with National Commission for Protection for child rights identified a few hotspot areas of Silchar, such as Tarapur railway station area, areas adjacent to Premtola Goldighi Mall and Ramnagar ISBT adjoining areas.
ASCPCR member Ajoy Kumar Dutta further revealed that a total of 17 children in the age group of 7 to 16 years were rescued by the team headed by Ajoy Kumar Dutta, Sudip Chakraborty, Prashant Dwibedi, consultant, NCPCR, District Child protection officer, Nabanita Hazarika. Health and Family Welfare, Labour Department, Education Department and Police Department also took part in the rescue drive. Later, the children were produced to Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Cachar for health check-up, counseling and shelter, stated a press release.
