LAKHIMPUR: Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika emphasized building an Aatmanirbhar Lakhimpur following the concept of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Assam. In this context, while addressing a rally during the celebration of the 74th Republic Day, Pijush Hazarika called upon the people of the district to work hard in every field to attain this goal and to stamp the district as one of the best performing districts of the State.

Lakhimpur district administration centrally celebrated the 74th Republic Day at the playground of North Lakhimpur Boys' HS School in a festive environment. The agenda of the national festival began with the presentation of patriotic songs by the Office of the District Information and Public Relation Officer at 5.30am. Then the tricolour was hoisted in the departmental offices, academic institutions and residents of the citizens from 7.30am.

Minister Pijush Hazarika, attending the central celebration of the event at the playground of North Lakhimpur Boys' HS School, unfurled the national flag. In his speech, the Minister stated that the State government led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had brought radical change to the State by expediting developmental activities. "Our government has brought reformation to the administrative machinery and propelled the State towards progress during the past years. Our top priority is to wipe out poverty from Assam," Hazarika asserted while highlighting the achievements of the schemes implemented by the Central and State governments.

Prior to this, the minister paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan. Then he took the guard of honour from marching troops of Assam Police, Home guards, NCC cadets, scouts and guides, students of the schools and colleges in the parade ground. He also felicitated the freedom fighters, senior citizens of the district, in addition to giving away the prizes to the winners of the competitions organized by the district administration in connection with the Republic Day celebration.

In the parade, the first prize was bagged by the NCC troops of the North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) while North Lakhimpur Girls' HS School secured the first prize and Sarbaswar Baruah High School secured the second prize in school category. In the programme, Agriculture, Sericulture, Health, Disaster Management, Transport departments showcased their tableaus. The artistes of the Sangeet Kanon, Bahgora Lachit Sangha, Akankhya Sanskritik Kala Kendra presented cultural items. The whole programme was anchored by Junuma Koch an official of the Deputy Commissioner's office. The district administration distributed fruits and light food items among the prisoners of the Lakhimpur Jail and the patients of the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital.
