Weekly women market inaugurated

LAKHIMPUR: In a view to empower women financially, a weekly women’s market was inaugurated at Patrichuk of Subansiri area under Ghilamora Development Block in Lakhimpur district. All stalls of the market, which was established under the aegis of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM), will be managed and controlled by the enterprising women community only. Various food items produced by the members of more than 100 self-help groups under 25 rural organizations, along with ornaments, cosmetic items, vegetables, fish and meat will be available in the market.

The market was inaugurated by Manju Borgohain, the president of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad, on Saturday in the presence of ASRLM Block co-ordinator Nitul Baruah, social activist Prashad Pegu, Joy Kumar Singh, several ‘Jeevika Sokhis’ and the local people of the area.
