STF Assam's Major Drug Bust: 12 Peddlers Arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI:  In a significant operation, the Special Task Force (STF) Assam conducted a successful drug bust, apprehending a total of 12 drug peddlers, including 4 women, in Guwahati city. The operation took place at the parking area of Guwahati Railway Station under the Panbazar police station.

Acting on reliable information, a dedicated team from the STF carried out the operation on a Monday night. The seized items included 104 vials with suspected heroin, 275 empty vials, a cash amount of Rs 45,000, 2 scooters, 5 mobile phones, and syringes with incriminating articles.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of STF, confirmed the successful operation, stating, "During the operation, the STF team apprehended 12 drug peddlers including 4 women. All persons were apprehended red-handed along with 104 numbers of vials with suspected heroin, 275 empty vials, cash amount of Rs 45,000, 2 scooty, 5 numbers of mobile phones, and syringes with incriminating articles."

Following the arrests, the individuals and the confiscated items were handed over to the Guwahati City Police for the registration of the case. The investigation is currently underway to determine the full extent of the drug peddling operation and to identify any potential links to larger drug trafficking networks.

This operation is part of STF Assam's ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade in the region. In a recent incident, the STF arrested a drug peddler attempting to escape in a Tata Nexon with the license plate AS 01 FQ 6558 in the Amingaon area.

Acting on credible information that a drug peddler named Moinul Ali of Alikash, PS Hajo was planning to transport narcotics to the Amingaon area, a team of STF officers led by Kalyan Kr Pathak, Additional SP STF, swiftly responded to the situation. They cornered Ali in the Amingaon area as he attempted to flee towards Jalukbari. To prevent his escape, one round of gunfire was necessary.

A search of Ali's vehicle resulted in the discovery of 12 soapboxes containing 170 grams of heroin. Further investigation led to the seizure of an additional 120 vials, containing 100 grams of heroin, from Ali's rented house near LCB College, Kamakhya Gate.

These successful operations by STF Assam illustrate the dedication of law enforcement agencies to curbing drug-related crimes and maintaining the safety and security of the community. The ongoing investigations will help uncover the full extent of drug trafficking activities in the region and bring those responsible to justice.
