Silchar: A sting operation conducted in the Divisional Forest Office under Cachar Forest Division exposed the bar-like atmosphere of the office during the night.

The sting operation was conducted by a local channel in Silchar after rumours were making rounds about the activities taking place in the office.

At the sudden intervention of the local media, some officers and staff were caught drinking alcohol while some of them looked for a place to hide. A few even pretended to work on seeing the camera.

These officers were allocated night shifts for the protection of wildlife as many ill activities such as poaching take place at night. However, these officers were engaged in their party in the office premises and did not seem to care about dangers lurking in the wildlife.

The surveyor on duty Soumya Kanti Sinha (Rana) and another man in uniform identified as Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha were caught consuming alcohol in the room adjacent ti the office of the Protection Ranger.

The Protection Ranger cum Silchar Sadar Incharge, Sibohori Sinha, was also under the influence of alcohol but he soon moved to his office and was found pretending to work.

More than three empty glasses of alcohol were found suggesting that there were many other officers involved in the consumption of alcohol.

Some of the officers managed to escape, and those who could not escape hid behind the truck that was stationed there.

On being asked about the activities happening right outside his office, Sibohori Sinha played dumb and expressed that he had no idea about it.
