AJYCP stages demonstrations in four districts

LAKHIMPUR: Following the critical condition in the construction site and adverse impact in the downstream of the River Subansiri, strong stir still continues in North Assam against the SLHP (Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project).
After staging the sit-in demonstration on Saturday, activists of AJYCP (Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad) resorted to 'Dharna' on Monday across four districts of north Assam. The districts where the stir was held are Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Biswanath and Majuli.
The activists shouted anti big-dam slogans at the district headquarters. They also submitted memoranda to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Deputy Commissioners concerned demanding scrapping of the contentious mega river-dam project — projected to generate 2000 Mega Watt electricity — in the highly seismic zone.
