LAKHIMPUR: In connection with the 16 days' activism regarding the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a district-level consultation of 16 days' campaign on violence against women and girls was held in Lakhimpur on Thursday.

The event, titled as 'Secured Women, Peaceful Society', was organized at the conference hall of the DRDA office under the aegis of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, Lakhimpur in collaboration with the Women and Child Development Department under Government of Assam with the technical support from State Hub for Women Empowerment.

The event was inaugurated by Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur. In his lecture, the Deputy Commissioner threw light on various forms of violence against women and children and their impact on society. He laid stress on conducting extensive awareness programmes to check the violence concerned. The welcome address of the event was delivered by Dipti Rekha Hazarika, Assistant Commissioner.

On the other hand, Prangana Borah, District Mission Coordinator, DHEW- Mission Shakti, Department of Women and Child Development made a PowerPoint presentation on the district scenario on violence against women and girls and newly-notified SOP on violence against women and girls.

GM Sadique Ahmed, a senior advocate and representative of Secretary, DLSA, explained the concept of gender-based-violence its prevention and response.
