LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration has laid emphasis on celebrating an eco-friendly, pollution-free Durgotsav in the district and urged the Puja committees of the district to initiate all sorts of measures to ensure the same. The district administration has also asked the Puja committees to refrain from using plastic items in the Puja mandaps and to use enough number of dustbins to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. On behalf of the district administration, District Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan made this appeal to the puja committees while holding a meeting with them in the conference hall of his office.

The meeting was organized in order to hold detailed discussion about the guidelines of the Durga Puja SOPs, served by the Government of Assam and Assam State Pollution Control Board and about the effective implementation of them across the district during the celebration of the ensuing Durgotsav. The meeting was attended by ADCs Sanjib Doloi, Sulakshana Borpatra Gohain, ASP Laba Kumar Deka, Joint Director Dr. Gunin Gogoi, DIPRO Mandira Chayengiya, Executive Officers of the North Lakhimpur, Narayanpur, Bihpuria Municipal Boards, Circle Officers, departmental officers of the district.

While chairing the meeting, the District Commissioner asked the Puja Committees to receive prior permission from the district administration and ‘No Objection Certificates’ (NOCs) from the Fire Brigade and Electricity Department. The Puja committees can apply for the permission until October 12. On the other hand, they can submit their application for the permission from the Police Department through assampolicesevasetu portal.

In the meeting, puja committees were called upon not to block roads and other public places while setting up the Puja mandaps. They were also called upon to engage enough number of male and female volunteers in the Puja mandap premises and submit the lists of their volunteers in the nearest Police Station or Outpost. Puja committees were further instructed to pay importance upon the security, protective measures at the Puja mandaps, manage parking place, separate entrance for male and female devotees and healthy ingredients for the Prasad to be distributed among them. They were asked to install Close Circuit Cameras in the Puja mandaps along with fire extinguishers. Sale of narcotic substances in and around hundred meter radius of the Puja mandaps ID restricted. In the same meeting, instructions were issued to the Puja committees in connection with the immersion of the Durga idols too.

The District Commissioner appealed to the people of the district to maintain law and order during the designated days of the Durgotsav, celebrate the festival in a peaceful environment.
