LAKHIMPUR: A strong storm lashed Lakhimpur district on Thursday night causing damage to a number of residential houses and lot of private and public properties.
The storm extensively affected Subansiri area in addition to Sonari Chapori and Borshamukh under Dhakuakhana subdivision and damaged residential houses, commercial buildings, school buildings, namghars, broke electric posts and uprooted big trees. Over hundreds of residential houses collapsed at Ghahibari, Balijan, Batsora, Koronga, Kathgaon, Sampora, Bhet-toli villages under Mornoi Gaon Panchayat under the subdivision. Several academic institutions like Basudev Than LP School, Mahesh Chandra Deva Goswami ME School, Ghahibari ME School, Nagpur SC ME School, Koronga Bolahi High School, Shri Shri Sankardev High School and Borshamukh College under Bordoloni Education Block were damaged by the storm.
On the other hand, uprooted trees broke a number of electric posts along the Dhakuakhana-Ghunasuti Road between Khajuwa Tiniali and Bebejia Chariali as well as Dhakuakhana-Majuli PWD Road. This disrupted the electricity and transportation system till midday on Friday.
