LAKHIMPUR: A three-day Students Induction Programme (SIP) of Lakhimpur Commerce College concluded with calls to newly-admitted students of the undergraduate programmes to focus on subjects and papers prescribed in the curriculum as designed by Dibrugarh University as per the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020.

On Wednesday, the last day’s programme began with a presentation by Prof. Pankaj Lochan Das of the English Department on various cells, committees, clubs of the college. Prof. Das informed the newly admitted undergraduate students about the cells like career counselling and placement, anti-ragging cell, vigilance cell, Yuva Tourism Club, extension service committee, alumni association etc and their scopes and objectives. This was followed by a discussion by Prof. Tarun Kumari of Commercial Arithmetic department on Skill Enhancement Courses of the syllabus of the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGT) of BA and B.Com of the Dibrugarh University. He also explained the students about the mentoring of students by teachers of the college in groups.

The second session of the concluding day’s SIP session on Major and Minor subjects as per the FYUGT syllabus of Dibrugarh University was conducted by Prof. Sazzad Hussain, Coordinator of the Academic Council of the college. The Head of the Department of Assamese, Professor Tilak Chandra Deka, Professor Pankaj Lochan Das of the English department, the Head of the Department of Education, Dr Lima Baruah, the Head of the Department of Economics, Dr Sangeeta Borthakur Tamuli, the Head of the Department of Political Science, Professor Kuldeep Narayan Dutta, and the Head of the Department of Banking, Professor Anirban Patgiri interacted with the students on the course structure of the concerned subjects in FYUGT. The SIP session concluded with Principal’s address by Dr Lohit Hazarika.

Earlier, the three-day SIP for the session 2023-24 began on August 7 in the college which was inaugurated by Dr Lohit Hazarika, the Principal of the college. The inaugural session was conducted by Professor Sazzad Hussain, the coordinator of the Academic Council of Lakhimpur Commerce College. The welcome address of the SIP was delivered by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, the Principal. The Librarian of the Central Library of the college, Runjun Baruah conducted an orientation on library procedures and practices of the college. This was followed by ‘Introduction to FYUGP-Basics of regulations, curriculum and syllabus’ by Prof. Tarun Kumari of the Department of Commercial Arithmetic and Dr Diganta Das of the Department of Accountancy.

The second day’s SIP began a deliberation by Vice Principal Gopal Kumar Chetry on code of conduct and core principles of the college. He also briefed the newly-admitted BA/BCom students about dress code, disciplinary measures and anti-ragging mechanism of the college. Dr Dadul Rajkonwar, coordinator of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college, delivered a presentation on NEP-2020. This was followed by an introduction to Details of Multi-disciplinary Generic courses by Professor Tarun Kumari of the Department of Commercial Arithmetic.
