Guwahati: Subramanian Swamy, BJP Rajya Sabha MP, has hailed the Ahom dynasty of Assam for resisting the advancement of the mighty Mughals based in Northern India.
Speaking at the Namami Bharat webinar, organized by Rotaract & Interact District 3240, BJP MP Subramaniyan Swamy highly praised the Ahoms' doggedness in standing up to the mighty Mughals and defeating them.
"The Mughals came 6 times to cross into Burma and they stopped them and defeated them and they had to go back", Swamy said.
Terming the Ahoms as a "great pride of India", Swamy said the Ahom dynasty's contribution should now become a part of History textbooks in India.
During his address, the 80-year-old said that the Northeast Indian region equally fought for the freedom of India against invaders. He further added that the Northeast has got "tremendous potential."
Swamy also spoke on historic wrongs and the solutions to correct it and focus on the need for empowering youth and ushering in new technology.
Swamy urged the youth to focus on rural areas by bringing changes in the agriculture sector by bringing Israel's model of drip irrigation, soil health card, etc.
He praised the role of Indian in world affairs be in IT Sector or the Health sector or political sector.
Swamy, applauding the New Education Policy, also urged the parents to encourage their children to learn Sanskrit, which is among the oldest languages in the world.
It is to be noted that the webinar titled Independence Day on India: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow was organized to mark India's 74th Independence Day.
Over 500 delegates and more than 25,000 viewers participated in the webinar. The webinar's video uploaded on Facebook currently has 12,827 views.
It is to be noted that Swamy is an avid fan of the Ahoms, led from the front by heroes such as Veer Lachit Borphukan, were able to defeat the advancing Mughals on numerous occasions.
"Long live Assam's great Hindu heroes starting with Ahom Dynasty", the BJP leader had posted on Twitter in February, indicating his fondness for the Ahoms.
It is to be noted that the Ahom dynasty ruled the Ahom kingdom in present-day Assam, India for nearly 598 years.
The dynasty was established by Sukaphaa, a Shan prince of Mong Mao who came to Assam after crossing the Patkai mountains.
