Guwahati: The summer vacation for Classes 1 to 12 in schools of Assam has been preponed. The summer holidays would now start from May 15 (tomorrow) and would continue till June 14 instead of the normal schedule of July 1 to July 31. This has been done to ensure that students do not suffer any academic loss, as schools in the state are currently shut due to the COVID pandemic.
"Considering the fact that in view of Covid-19 situation in the State of Assam and Educational Institutes being closed as on date and with the objective of ensuring that the students of Elementary, Secondary and Sr. Secondary Schools (Class 1-12) do not suffer from any academic loss and therefore, it is decided that the Summer Vacation in Schools scheduled from 1st July to 31st July 2021, as per Academic Calendar, is hereby rescheduled from 15th May, 2021 to 14th June, 2021," an order issued by the Secondary Education Department of Assam said on Thursday.
As per the new set of COVID-19 SOPs issued by the state government on May 12, all educational institutions in the state have been shut till May 18. However, online teaching-learning can continue is what the new guidelines said. But now with this new order from the Secondary Education Department, classes would resume from June 14.
The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) had earlier cancelled Class 11 or HS first-year final exams and promoted all students to Class 12. The board had also postponed HS final exams till further notice. HS final exams were slated to begin on May 11.
"Due to prevailing COVID-19 situation, the Higher Secondary final examinations 2021 scheduled to be held from 11 May, 2021, has been postponed until further order," the AHSEC said earlier this month.
The Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) had also postponed the Matric or Class 10 exams in view of the COVID-19 situation.
