KOKRAJHAR: The Swarnim Vijay Barsh victory flame that was lit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 16, 2020 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of India's victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, arrived in Chirang district on Saturday. The victory flame, which was on its return journey after travelling other Northeastern States was received with tremendous fervour and full military honours by serving officials and soldiers of 12 Grenadiers in the presence of war veteran, veer nari, ex- servicemen, public representatives, civil and police officials at district parade ground at Kajalgaon.

On the occasion, apart from conducting last minute run, guard of honour to the victory flame and wreath laying ceremony for paying tribute to 1971 war martyrs, war veteran Guardsman Hirendra Kumar Saha and Veer Nari Kiron Bala Roy were honoured and felicitated by MLA Jayanta Basumatary and MLA Ajay Kumar Ray respectively.

The programme was attended by BTR Executive Member Dhanjay Basumatary, Col. Gaurav Singh, Deputy Commander of 11 Mountain Brigade, Chirang Superintendent of Police Pranjit Borah, and was addressed by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah and Jayanta Basumatary, MLA of Sidli Legislative Assembly. Later it was escorted for Bongaigaon Oil Refinery for further celebration.
