DOOMDOOMA: The Department of Sociology of Bir Raghav Moran Government Model (BRMGM) College, Doomdooma, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a talk on the topic 'Russia - Ukraine Conflict: Past, Present and Future' on Tuesday.
Dr Pranjit Saikia, assistant professor of Political Science, Doomdooma College, delivered the talk and dwelt at length on the topic and also replied to the queries of the students. The programme was also attended by the Principal of the college, Dr. Amorjit Saikia, Vice-Principal Dr. Pranita Neog and the IQAC convener Dr. Pranjal Talukdar, besides the teachers and students of the College.
Deuka, a handwritten magazine published by the Sociology department of the college, was released in the programme. The magazine has been edited by Biplob Jyoti Moran, a student of the third semester, under the guidance of the assistant professors of the department, Akshay Jyoti Mahanta, Dr. Moloy Gogoi and Dr. Gitamoni Hazarika. Prior to this programme, an awareness rally was taken out by the students of Doomdooma College and Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College.
LAKHIMPUR: A talk on the ongoing 'Ukraine-Russia War: Possibilities of a Third World War' was held in Lakhimpur Commerce College on Thursday. Organized as part of the weekly lecture series, the programme was hosted by the Department of Political Science of the college. The programme was chaired by Principal Dr Lohit Hazarika, wherein the objective of the meeting was explained by Professor KN Dutta. Columnist and Head of the Department of English of the college, Professor Sazzad Hussain attended the programme as the resource person.
In his deliberations, Professor Hussain said that the idea of a World War was a colonial concept which had no takers in the present world dominated by geo-politics of major powers. He said that the current escalation in Ukraine was created by the US to regain its fledgling economy and strategic influence. He also ruled out the possibility of a World War III for Ukraine. The programme also had a question-answer session participated by teachers and students. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Professor Rajendra Prasad Borah.
