Tamulpur MLA Leho Ram Boro Dies of COVID, Second Assam MLA to Succumb to COVID in 3 Days

Guwahati: Newly-elected MLA of Tamulpur, Leho Ram Boro succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was under treatment at GMCH since two days.

The 63-year-old UPPL leader was shifted to ICU after his condition turned critical. A resident of Bareigaon, Tamulpur in Baksa district of Assam, he had contested from the Tamulpur seat for the first time and won.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. He has directed Cabinet Ministers U G Brahma and Ashok Singhal to take care of the last rites that would be performed with full state honour. Both ministers have been asked to be present at the funeral.

Condoling Boro's death, former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that he is "deeply anguished by the untimely demise" of the UPPL legislator and Boro would be "remembered for his community services".

Boro was living in Dharapur area of Guwahati with his two sons.

Boro is the second MLA to have died of COVID. Gossaigaon MLA Majendra Narzary had died due to post-COVID complications on Wednesday. He had tested negative but died due to stroke at the GMCH. Narzary had co-morbidities like diabetes and hypertension and was on ventilator when he died.
