Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi has tested negative for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Tarun Gogoi was admitted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital(GMCH) on August 25 after he tested positive for the virus.

"He has tested negative but as he is still very weak we are not releasing him right now. He will be staying in the hospital for few more days," Dr Abhijit Sharma, Superintendent, GMCH told Sentinel Assam.

Gogoi needs more medical attention and his family too had decided not to take him home until he recovers completely.

Gogoi was given plasma therapy after his oxygen levels had dipped on August 31.

Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has set up a special team of doctors to monitor the health of the three-time Chief Minister of Assam.
