DHUBRI: The death anniversary of Tarun Ram Phukan was observed as Deshbhakti Divas in a befitting manner under auspices of the Dhubri district information and Public Relations Office here in the conference hall of the Dhubri Zila Parishad on Thursday.

Dhubri Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nitya Binod Wari presided over the memorial meeting while Head of the Department of Assamese in BN College, Dr. Upendrajit Sarma delivered a speech as an appointed speaker on the life and varied activities of the patriotic son of Assam, Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan.

"Tarun Ram Phukan was the first to ride a bicycle in Guwahati and Calcutta and first to drive a car on the roads of Guwahati. His firebrand speech ignited the blood of youths of Assam and they joined the freedom movement of the country. His life is an ocean and in one speech it can never be concluded," Dr Sarma said.

Besides highlighting the various other remarkable sides and activities of Tarun Ram Phukan, he also spoke at length on his hunting skill. The memorial meeting was also addressed by the grandson of freedom fighter, Md. Naser Alfaruque and social worker, Simul Sarkar. Earlier, floral tribute was offered at the portrait of Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan by the participants of the memorial meeting.
