LAKHIMPUR: The Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Asom (TAYPA) staged a massive protest program against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in Lakhimpur on Thursday.
Hundreds of the activists of the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization initiated a bike rally in the North Lakhimpur subdivision demanding the scrapping of the contentious Act. While staging the stir, the protesters rocked the environment by shouting slogans against the BJP-led governments in the Centre and the State. They vehemently rejected the CAA and demanded its immediate scrapping and vowed not to allow the alleged conspiracy by BJP-led governments to be succeeded with regard to enforcing the Act in the State.
The dignitaries of the organization warned the State government not to proceed in order to implement the Act in the State ignoring the massive protest against it.
“We will never let the BJP governments enforce the Act in Assam. Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma should give up their divisive policies to dominate and to silence the agitation against CAA. We don’t allow their attempts to be succeeded to destroy our Jati, Mati and Bheti. Our democratic agitation will be going on until the Act is scrapped,” asserted Ajit Burhagohain, the Lakhimpur district unit TAYPA president, leading the bike rally.
