TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Chemists and Druggists Association (TCDA) has decided to stop delivery of medicines to pharmacies of Doomdooma for indefinite period in the wake of frequent demands of money as donation and yearly subscriptions against the medicine delivery service and alleged threat by a Doomdooma-based organization. This decision was taken unanimously in a meeting of the association held on November 1.

In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, the TCDA, an affiliated body of Chemists & Druggists Association of Assam (CDAA) and recognized by the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), stated that the association ensured the supply of essential and emergency medicines in every town and village of Tinsukia district at all times. Medicine wholesalers of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh made arrangements to supply medicines at the doorsteps of pharmacies on rotation basis even during the entire COVID-19 lockdown period, risking their own and their families' lives, so that supply of life-saving drugs did not get interrupted and no untoward situation arose due to shortage of medicines. But presently, an organization in Doomdooma has demanded unjustified sum of money collectively from medicine catering parties, threatening them that if the demanded amount was not paid within a deadline time, they would 'nab' or capture the catering persons and would release them only against a higher ransom to be paid individually by each party, the memo stated.

The association, taking serious note on the matter, has sought immediate intervention of the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia so that supply of medicines remains unhindered and the safety and security of their members is also ensured. The Association also stated that it would not be held responsible for untoward situations arising due to shortage of both essential and emergency medicines in Doomdooma and nearby areas.
