TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA) has set a 7-day deadline to Tinsukia district administration and District police to initiate action against school authority and Kakopathar police in connection with unethical detention of secretary of Kakopathar Press Club Mintu Talukdar for two hours based on an unjustified complaint by Headmaster and a teacher of a Kakopathar school on Monday. The incident triggered strong resentment among the journalists and local people. The TDJA submitted memorandum to the Tinsukia District Commissioner with a copy to Superintendent of Police Tinsukia on Tuesday. The DC assured the TDJA delegation of needful action. The Kakopathar Press Club also submitted memorandum to the CO of Doomdooma on Tuesday.
According to reports, a conscious guardian of Kakopathar Hindi Vidyalaya Baban Singh was thrashed by 2 teachers who were loitering outside the school when he protested. The guardian reported the matter to media including Mintu Talukdar who filed the story. Aggrieved by the news, the headmaster Ramprati Singh and the assistant teacher Dilipkumar Singh lodged a complaint against Talukdar on Monday. Surprisingly, Kokopathar police without assessing the merit of the case detained Talukdar in the police station and he was let off after 2 hours. The TDJA took up the matter as Kakopathar Press Club is affiliated to TDJA. The demands which included in the memorandum are 7-day deadline to initiate disciplinary action against concerned police officer and proper inquiry into irregularities in the school. If they fail to do so then the TDJA will boycott all police news and National Press Day programme organized by district administration besides sit-in demonstration programme.
