TINSUKIA: The Tea Tribes Welfare Department of the Government of Assam has initiated a slew of schemes to bolster holistic development in the education sector and self-employment among youths through income-generating schemes by providing financial assistance.
Announcing eight schemes, Sanjay Kishan Minister of State for Tea Tribes Welfare and Labour, in a press meet at Circuit House, Tinsukia on Monday, said that the schemes would be implemented with full transparency and within a timeframe for which the department had arranged to receive applications online.
An amount of Rs 2 crore has been allotted in 2020-21 for pre-matric scholarship under which each student studying in Class IX and Class X would get Rs 3,000 per year. Under Simon Singh Horo post-matric scholarship scheme, each student recognized under SEBA/AHSEC/State Government will receive Rs 10,000 as one-time financial assistance for which Rs 7 crore has been earmarked. Similarly, the amount is also enhanced to Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000 for HS and three-year degree students respectively for which Rs 6 crore has been allotted. Correspondingly, Rs 2 crore and Rs 4 crore have been earmarked for MBA, engineering, law, research and ANM/GNM/ Para-medical students respectively.
The minister stated that Rs 1 crore would be spent for coaching aspiring students of medical and engineering education, bank jobs and civil service examination. Also, Rs 40 crore has been allotted in 2020-21 under Swahid Dayal Das Panika Swaniyojan Achoni (skill development and entrepreneurship grant). Besides, 250 SHGs will be extended Rs 25,000 each to enhance income generation for which Rs 1 crore has been earmarked, the minister said, adding that the applicants could log on to the departmental website www.ttwd.assam.gov.in.
