HAILAKANDI: Teachers' Day commemorating the 59th birth anniversary of former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was celebrated in a muted manner amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation here on Saturday.

A function was held at the block education office, Hailakandi in which garlanding of portrait of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and lighting of lamp were held to mark the occasion.

In view of the pandemic outbreak, no felicitation was accorded to the teachers. Speeches delivered by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Education, RK Dam, Inspector of Schools, Ikbal Hussain Barbhuiya and others highlighted the contribution of teachers in society. Dam commended the teachers for their sincere contribution amid the COVID-19 pandemic and in quickly adapting to new teaching methods that are effective and inclusive in these unprecedented times. Barbhuiya extended his gratitude to teachers for their commitment.
