Technical Education Gets A Boost, CM Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurates Golaghat Engineering College

GOLAGHAT: Giving technical education in the State a boost, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday inaugurated Golaghat Engineering College at Bogorijan. The college, built at a cost of Rs. 46.68 crore on a sprawling 110 bigha of land, is the sixth engineering college in the State with Civil, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering branches in the curriculum. The college has an intake capacity of 180. The college started its academic activities from 2018 with 92 students.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that with the inauguration of the college the long pending need for an engineering college in Golaghat had been fulfilled. He also asked the students of the college to become efficient and responsible engineers who could contribute to the growth of the society. He also urged upon the people and organizations to extend all possible support to create a congenial atmosphere for the college to live up to its mandate.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs announced Rs. 22,594 crore for capacity augmentation of Numaligarh Refinery from the existing 3 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA) to 9 MMTPA. This will augur well in creating an enabling environment for the engineers of the State. He also said that petroleum products from the NRL would be sent to Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Stating that the government could play the role of facilitator and create infrastructure, Sonowal urged upon the students to build the mentality for working hard to take the advantage of the state-of-the-art infrastructure. He emphasized the need for teachers and parents to motivate the students. Terming 21st century as a century of competition, he asked the young generation to keep themselves abreast of the scientific developments taking place across the globe and to march ahead to prove their prowess in the present world order.

Sonowal also said that the campus of Golaghat Engineering College should be clean and green. With regard to State Government’s agenda of making Assam pollution free, Sonowal said that as a part of that, the government had planted 4.50 crore saplings and urged upon all sections to work to help the young generation to imbibe love for the environment. He also said that in the parlance of freedom movement, Golaghat district had immense contribution. Thirteen freedom fighters laid down their lives in the freedom movement of the country. Moreover, Golaghat has played an immense role towards promotion of art and culture. The engineering college will help Golaghat district to continue its forward march in the field of technical education as well, said Sonowal.

Taking into consideration of the technical advancement of the State, Sonowal said that divyangjans who constitute an important segment of the demography of the State should be empowered. Therefore, the first ever ITI for the divyangjans is being built in Dibrugarh to help them empower themselves technically.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that a section of the people was hell bent in creating disturbances in the society in the pretext of the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. He at the same time maintained that Government of Assam was committed to safeguarding the interests of the indigenous people of the State.
