LAKHIMPUR: A teenaged girl under Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district met a watery grave on Friday. The deceased girl has been identified as Doyakshina Chamua (15), daughter of Nripen Chamua, resident of Sapotiya Chetiya Gaon under the subdivision. She was the student of Harhi HS School.

As per report, the girl drowned in the Sapotiya Jan (stream) while she tried to rescue one of her two younger brothers who went to the stream to take bath. Her brother drowned in the deep water of the stream while taking bath. Though she could manage to save her brother, she drowned.

Later, her body was recovered after a three-hour long rescue operation launched by SDRF with divers from a place 50 metre away from the spot where she drowned. The body was sent to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital for post mortem in the presence of executive magistrate. Doyakshina was an active member of Pachim Machkhowa regional unit of All Assam Students' Union and her death has cast a pall of gloom in the locality.
