DIGBOI: The blood-stained body of a local tea tribe teenager was recovered from a small tea garden drain at Kahatangpani in Pengaree, said a police official during his visit to the site on Sunday morning.
“We have apprehended a suspect and hunt for others involved in the murder is on,” he added. Sensation prevailed at Khatangpani under Pengaree police station following recovery of the blood-stained body of Ranjit Gawala (15) on Sunday morning. The deceased was the son of Tuphan Gawala, resident of Khatangpani Line no 5.
According to an eye witness, the deceased was seen taking part in the Karam Puja celebration on Saturday night and the next morning his body was found lying near the garden nallah.
“He was brutally assaulted by the unidentified miscreants and later his neck was pierced by a sharp branch of a tree,” said Jintu Gogoi, a resident of the area.
The members of tea tribe student organizations demanded justice for the deceased and thronged the police station demanding arrest of the culprits involved. A local tea tribe youth of the same village who was not at home on Saturday night when the crime was committed, was apprehended by the cops. Police investigation is on.
Meanwhile, the body was sent for post-mortem at Tinsukia Civil hospital and the last rites will be performed on Monday.
