Guwahati: In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the state, several temples in Assam have cancelled fairs and Bihu-related events.

According to a report published in the National English daily, temples in Basistha in Guwahati and Hayagriva Madhav in Hajo have cancelled their Bihu's related events.

Notably, Maghi Mela was usually held by Baistha Temple while Hayagriva Madhav temple holds Manikut Utsav during the festival.

Meanwhile, the new COVID 19 cases in Assam have crossed the 2,000 mark in a single day where Kamrup Metro alone reported 760 cases in the past 24 hours.

According to the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam on Monday registered 2,198 fresh COVID-19 infections. Notably, two COVID-19 related deaths were also reported and the overall positivity percentage went up to 4.49%.

However, the recovery rate in Assam is 97.71 percent.
