TINSUKIA: Duliajan MLA Terash Gowalla, who resigned from the constituency following his denial to the post of chairperson of Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL), has created ripples in the BJP circle. In his latest approval of chairmen in various boards, corporations and PSUs in the State, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appointed Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia as chairperson of AGCL much to the resentment of Gowalla. Unprecedented in the history of State legislature, he reportedly tendered his resignation to the Assembly Speaker and the Chief Minister.

Though Gowalla was not available for his comment, Rameswar Teli, MP of Dibrugarh, when contacted by this correspondent, said he became very sentimental and emotional following the decision by the Chief Minister. Terming the issue as quite minor than becoming an MLA, Teli said the State party leadership would convince him to withdraw his resignation. Gowalla is an influential BJP leader in tea belts of Duliajan and his resignation would cast a negative impact in BJP pockets in Duliajan and Dibrugarh, observed a BJP activist. On the other hand, a few leading conscious citizens opined that the resignation on self-motivated grounds by an MLA has questioned his commitment as a public representative as Mr Terash has shown to be more interested in an ornamental post than public service.
