TEZPUR: The Sonitpur district committee of Congress party along with Raijor Dal in Tezpur on Sunday began a day-long dharna at Court Chariali here against the disqualification of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha.
Sonitpur district Congress president Dadul Borkakoti, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) secretary Rana Baruah, Kartik Kurmi, State spokesperson, Rupa Kalita, State secretary of Raijor Dal, Anupam Baruah and several leaders took part in the protest and expressed their solidarity with Rahul Gandhi. The protesters shouting slogans against the BJP-led government and Adani issues.
While talking to the media, district president Dadul Borkakoti said that disqualifying Rahul Gandhi as a Member of Parliament would not suppress the voice of the people of India. He also claimed that the BJP destroyed democracy. Opposition parties of the State, including Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad and NCP, have lent their support to the Congress and their representatives also participated in the protest, Borkakoti added.
