Tezpur meeting reviews situation across tea estates during lockdown period

Tezpur: A meeting was organized by Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar, Medical Inspector of Plantations, Tezpur on Monday in the office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Tezpur to review the present situation in the tea estates of Sonitpur and Biswanath districts. The meeting was attended by ALC Tezpur, Bornali Changkakoti and other dignitaries.

Attending the meeting, secretary of ACMS, Sunil Tuti and Gobin Saikia said that all the gardens under Tezpur branch were running smoothly after getting permission to open during lockdown period. They also said that workers were maintaining social distancing during their working time and in their residential area also. Due to active role of the district administration, all workers were getting ration and vegetables also in their gardens. Secretary of ABITA and TAI said that around 800 people wereunder quarantine, including home quarantine, in different tea gardens of undivided Sonitpur and most of them completed 28 days without any signs and symptoms.

In view of the outbreak of COVID-19, Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar requested the secretary of ABITA and TAI to advise their member gardens to maintain government guidelines to run the tea estates. He advised to keep garden ambulance in good running condition and if required, to keep hired vehicles also to use as ambulance during emergency in addition to garden ambulance. He asked the manager to keep hand sanitizer also in different working places and washing areas with soap and water. He stressed creating more awareness about COVID-19 in working places.

Dr Lahkar also directed to ensure pure and safe drinking water supply in the working sites and regular monitoring of the health of the garden workers. He also asked to ensure adequate stock of all medicines. He gave importance to use of thermal scanner to keep strict vigil on workers’ health. Outsiders should not be allowed to enter the gardens without any proper valid reason and without proper sanitization. Dr Lahkar also requested all gardens worker unions and student leaders to cooperate with the garden management to fight against COVID-19.
