TEZPUR: The Tezpur police arrested three alleged drug peddlers with suspected contraband substances at the Kaliabhomora bridge under Tezpur Sadar Police Station in Sonitpur district on May 17.

Acting on a tip-off, in a special drive against narcotic drugs and psychtropic substances, a team of Tezpur police under the supervision of Sushanta Biswa Sarma, Superintendent of Police, and Additional SP, (Headquarters) Madhurima Das, a naka was laid under the leadership of IC Borghat Police station, Simanta Pathak along with SI Naren Chetia and three peddlers were apprehended near the Kaliabhomora bridge. The police team recovered a total of 27 small plastic containers of suspected brown sugar.

Police also seized a car bearing registration number AS12 8533 from their possession. The drug peddlers have been identified as Anuwar Hussain (18), resident of Chotai Sapori, Anar Hussain (21), resident of Bhojkhua Sapori, and Majibur Rahman (23), resident of Jurgarh under Tezpur Police station. A case has been registered against them under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
