TEZPUR: Celebrating 25 years of success, the Department of Physics of Tezpur University in association with the Technology Enabling Centre and Intellectual Property Rights Cell of the University has organized a five-day mega event focusing on “Skill, Entrepreneurship, Startup, and Innovation (SESIPS) starting from Monday.

This ambitious initiative is the first of its kind in the university and it aims to set the stage for innovative collaborations between academia, industries, startups, and entrepreneurs. The inaugural event was graced by several esteemed speakers, such as Dr. Sandip Chatterjee, Scientist G, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Dr. R.S Shinde, Former Outstanding Scientist, Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Department of Atomic Energy. Sanjeev K Varshney, Head of International Cooperation, Department of Science & Technology and Prof. Y. K. Vijay, Director, Centre for Innovation in Science Teaching, IIS University, Jaipur are some of the notable speakers who will be attending this event.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandip Chatterjee reminded everyone of Prime Minister’s vision of 5 trillion economy. He however observed that to achieve that target youth needs to take up entrepreneurship and start-up. Although revenue from the unicorns were not so promising, Dr. Chatterjee was hopeful that the scenario would change. “India is the only country to have demographic dividend and world is watching us to deliver,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. RS Shinde said that India is lagging behind in the manufacturing sector and henceforth opportunity is there to explore these areas. Addressing the young academicians and researchers, Dr. Shinde said that whatever researchers are doing in the laboratories needs to produce results. “University is the right place to do brainstorming and promote ideas,” he said.

Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University while inaugurating the mega event urged all stakeholders to utilize the next five days. “The event will feature a series of skill development workshops in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), Digital Marketing and UAV Development in the next few days and it is a good opportunity for our young participants to learn the traits of cutting edge ideas,” Prof. Singh said. The event will also feature an idea and prototype exhibition to offer the participants an opportunity to showcase their innovative concepts. Selected participants will receive support for patenting and for nurturing their ideas into successful startups.

The event is being spearheaded by a distinguished core committee led by Prof. Nidhi S. Bhattacharyya as Chairperson and including Dr. Rajib Biswas and Dr. Ritupan Sarmah as faculty coordinators, Prof. Nayan Moni Kakoty, Coordinator of Technology Enabling Centre and Prof. Pritam Deb, the IPR Chair Professor.
