TEZPUR: The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University, successfully conducted an event titled PRabha on the occasion of National Public Relations Day on April 21, 2023. The objective of the event was to raise awareness among students about the importance of public relations and communication.
The theme of the event, "G20 and Indian Values: Public Relations Perspectives," was set by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), and the schedule was packed with thematic sessions, panel discussions, speeches by industry experts, and the launch of the departmental wall magazine.
The event started with the inauguration of the wall magazine by the Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Farheena Danta, followed by a welcome address by the Head, Department of MCJ, Prof. Abhijit Bora. Prof. Danta also addressed the gathering, saying, "Public relations is about building bridges that help us move forward together. Public relations help to create an effective community, not just proficient in the business or management sector to get the work done, but also emotionally bonding with the community so that together we can deliver on our projected goals".
The first panel discussion, "Decoding the PR Umbrella," was moderated by Smita Patel, a student of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, with panellists Ms. Elora Baruah from IOCL, Mr. Swakkyar Deka, a public relations practitioner under the Government of Assam, Ms. Neena, DIPRO, Sonitpur, and Mr. Samaresh Barman, Public Relations and Information Officer, Tezpur University.
The second panel discussion, "Public Relations: From Theory to Practise," was moderated by Abhishek Kabra, Research Scholar, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University, with panellists Ms. Jayeeta Das, BCPL, Mr. Dibyajyoti Sarmah, a Public Relations Practitioner under the Government of Assam, and Ms. Kuwoli Hazarika from Grid India. During the panel discussion, the esteemed panellists talked about several topics pertaining to the public relations (PR) industry. They shared their insights on various aspects, such as the diverse career opportunities available in PR, the importance of transparency in communication, and their personal experiences and perspectives on the industry.
The event concluded with the launch of a few PR campaigns by the 1st year Master's degree students, followed by a valedictory session and cultural evening, a press release said.
