The National Alliance for People's Movement (NAPM)backs Bodoland statehood demand

Kokrajhar: The National Alliance for People's Movement (NAPM) on Friday extended its support to the creation of separate Bodoland state and said that the constitutional rights of the underprivileged tribal communities should be ensured to them. The 14-member team of Samvidhan Sannan Yatra that began from October 2 from Dandi in Gujarat arrived at Kokrajhar today where ABSU president Promod Boro felicitated them with traditional Aronai and held a meeting at Bodofa House.

Talking to reporters, Meera Shanghamitra of Telengana said the NAPM had been raising it's voice for equality. He said the demand for Bodoland state was justified as the Bodo tribes have historical and constitutional rights. He also said the NAPM have been raising its voice for the people who are being depressed and dominated.

Shanghamitra said the Bodos in Assam had been struggling for the state over the years as the existing BTC has not fulfilled the aspiration of the people of the region. She said the NALM has been working for the genuine cause of the people. She further said the BJP led NDA government had been playing politics on the basis of religion which has been destroying the integrity of the people of the country.

Sandeep Pandey of UP said the BJP had been dividing the country on religious line. He said over 300 organizations had joined NALM to raise their collective voice in India and they started the Samvidhan Sanman Yatra since October 2 to December 10 from Dandi of Gujarat in India.

The ABSU has also supported the movement. He justified that the Bodoland movement was constitutionally correct and the Bodos have historical and constitutional rights.

ABSU President Promod Boro said the student body had extended its support to the NAPM as they have been struggling for the underprivileged people.

He said the ABSU had been struggling for the Bodoland state since long but the demand is yet to be solved. He also said the government of India should clear its stand on the creation of new states in India.
