LAKHIMPUR: Along with the other parts of the State, the 9th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was observed in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district.

The event was observed at Ghunasuti by GhunasutiSakhaXahityaXabha with a day-long agenda in association with MiriJiyori College in a befitting manner. The event began with the lighting of earthen lamp and paying of floral tribute to the portrait of the maestro. In the event, a total of 1,000 students, studying at MiriJiyori College, Ghunasuti High School and Ghunasuti Girls' High School paid deep tribute to Dr. BhupenHazarika by singing his evergreen song ManuheManuhar Babe... in chorus.

With this song, the open session of the event began with JogenTaid, the president of GhunasutiSakhaXahityaXabha, in the chair. Lakhimpur District XahityaXabha president BipulSarmahBaruah attended the programme as chief guest and he highlighted the life and philosophy of Dr. Hazarika, social consciousness and responsibility that is manifested in his songs. Prominent vocal artiste Amiya Kumar Chirang, along with a galaxy of local artistes, presented several popular songs of the Bard. On the other hand, MiriJiyori College Principal KhagenPayang, Ghunasuti High School headmaster NityanandaMili, journalist RajibBaruah and academician Subha Dad were present as guests of honour in the event. Prior to the open session, a competition among the students on BhupendraSangeet was held.
