LAKHIMPUR: Three posts of Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) have been lying vacant for a long time in the Lakhimpur Divisional Forest Office. It is alleged that the three crucial posts have been lying vacant in the office concerned due to the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government. The State Government has not initiated any steps to fill up these posts since the time two out of the three officers were transferred to two different places while one retired. As per an official source, two of the posts of ACF became vacant after one of them was transferred to Biswanath Chariali and the other to Nagaon. On the other hand, another such officer named LN Burhagohain retired.

As a result of these vacant posts, anomalies have taken place with regard to protecting the natural resources of five reserve forests and several quarries under Lakhimpur district. The ACF is responsible for countersigning the TP challans and submitting mining reports of the quarries after their spot inspection.
