Three child labourers rescued in Tinsukia by District Task Force

DIGBOI: Altogether three child labourers, including an eight-year-old, were rescued by District Child Labour Task Force, Digboi Police, Margherita Labour department and Margherita Child Line, from two different places of Digboi in Tinsukia district on Saturday.

The task force during the rescue drive rescued a minor girl from the house of Asish Dey of Digboi Purnima Nagar who had engaged the minor as domestic help. “On rescuing the girl who hails from one of the remote villages of Duliajan in Dibrugarh district, we were utterly shocked to discover several marks of fresh wounds on her body,” said Satya Narayan Baruah, the in-charge District Child Protection Officer.

“Two minor male domestic child labourers were also rescued from Digboi Golai area along DPS School Road from a dairy farm the same day,” said Dr. Bhaskar Mili, the Labour Officer of Margherita. According to the officials of the rescue team, both the child labourers of Goali area were engaged to do manual work for Rs 1,000 per month.

Based on two separate FIRs lodged by the District Nodal Officer and Labour officer, two cases No 244/19 and 245/19 to this effect were registered u/s 325/34 ipc r/w section 75 of Juveniles Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and r/w sec. 14 (a) of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 2016 respectively.
