LAKHIMPUR: In view of the increasing number of the COVID-19 cases in Lakhimpur district and to arrest the spread of the pandemic to secure public health, the district administration has declared three containment zones under North Lakhimpur subdivision.

One of them is village Gorgoga under Azad area which is the residential area of Anuj Bhuyan and some other COVID -19 patients who were detected positive on Thursday. Notably, these patients were infected with coronavirus by three women who were detected positive later. The women attended the marriage ceremony held in Anuj Bhuyan's family violating the home quarantine guidelines after their swab samples were collected for COVID-19 test.

By a separate order, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jeevan B has also declared the Mouzadar Path, Ward No. 14, Khelmati, Near Lakhimpur Girls' College as containment zone. This area is the residential area of Chidanga Bhuyan who also tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday through the marriage ceremony held at Gorhoga. In addition to it, the DC has designated the Mautorchuk-Gharmora connecting road under Bahadurchuk village as containment zone. Here lies the residence of Tridib Dutta who also tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. He was also one among the attendees of another marriage ceremony held at Gotehoga village which was also attended by the three women. The areas located in the 500 metre radius of the containment zones have been declared as buffer zones.

However, only one COVID-19 patient was detected in Lakhimpur on Friday. He has been identified as Rakesh Jain (51) of Bengali Colony under North Lakhimpur town. He is the elder brother of Manish Jain who tested positive on July 13. Till day, a total of four persons, including a five-year old child, who came into his contact, detected positive for coronavirus. The number of COVID-19 positive cases in Lakhimpur district has spiked to 322. Out of them, 150 patients have been discharged while 172 are active cases.
