DHUBRI: The three-day Asomi Bhogali Mela got underway here at Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua field. It was inaugurated by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath on Wednesday. Altogether, 30 self-help groups put up stalls with their various products, including delicious pitha and handicraft items made by the members of the groups.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath said that the self-help groups instead of sticking to their present works, should also explore other areas and do something innovative, like the self-help groups of Karnataka. "Some self-help groups of Karnataka are engaged in housekeeping works in airports. Similarly, you can also think and do such things," he said. In his speech, chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Dr Debamoy Sanyal, while addressing the inaugural meeting, said that a permanent stall was required for selling the products of self-help groups. The fair has been organized by the Dhubri district unit of Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission.
