Three-day Dhrupad Mahotsav of Classical Music Concludes at Dhubri

DHUBRI: The three-day Dhrupad Mahotsav of classical music, both vocal and instrumental, concluded at the Dhubri District Library Auditorium recently. The musical programme was organized under the auspices of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi under National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, an autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the Dhubri district administration.

At the onset of the three-day festival, Goalian dance, a part of rich Goalpariya culture, was presented by Bhuyan Roy Kausani and Anukul Roy. Dhubri District Development Commissioner Banashree Nath declared the Dhrupad Mahotsav open.

Thereafter, an exponent of classical dance, Erika Ingrid Nandi of Dhubri formally inaugurated the Dhrupad festival. On the first day, Dhrupad singer Vinod Kumar Diwidi from Uttar Pradesh, musician Sourbrata Chakraborty from Rajasthan and Radheshyam Sharma from Uttar Pradesh enthralled the hall-packed audience with their vocal and instrumental performances.

On the second day of the festival, Dhrupad singer Pelva Naik from Maharashtra, musician Monmohan Naik from Delhi, Sashikant Pathak from Bihar and Dhrupad singer Brij Bhushan Goswami from Delhi presented their performances which were applauded by the audience. On the third day, Dhrupad singer Pallab Das from Uttar Pradesh, an exponent in Rudra Veena, Sarda Musthi from Delhi and Chitrangada Egle from Madhya Pradesh presented their performances and thus concluded the three-day mega festival of classical music.

At the end of the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner Animesh Talukdar felicitated the artistes who came from different parts of the country with traditional phulam gamosa of the Koch-Rajbangshi community.

Apart from this, on behalf of Dhubri cultural circle, artistes Erika Ingrid Nandi and Manasi Devi, and a nature activist, Anesh Roy Sarkar also felicitated all the participants of the festival with an terracotta doll and neem seedling each. Dhubri District Information and Public Relation Officer Jiten Das, who took the initiative and shouldered all responsibility in organizing the mega musical event in Dhubri after 40 long years, extended his gratitude to all for making the festival a grand success. The artistes who came from different parts of the country also visited the important heritage sites of Dhubri district.
