GAURISAGAR: The three-day-long Bhaona Samaroh got underway at Mathuradas Burhaata Samannoy Kshetra, Na-Dicial on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district. It has been organized by Triluchan Sanskritic Mancha, Gaurisagar.

On this occasion, a symposium was held on the topic, ‘The role of bhaona samaroh and competitions to obtain acute principle for performance of mother tongue bhaona’. Tuwaram Khanikor, noted orator and former Professor of SMD College, Charing conducted the seminar while Pabitra Pran Borah, noted researcher of Sankari culture and president of the cultural branch of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Asom, and Sonaram Sarmah Burha Bhakat of Purana Kamalabari Xatra took part as appointed speakers.

Addressing the gathering, Pabitra Pran Borah said that bhaona was a symbol of unity. He also narrated the history and development of Assamese bhaona since 1934. In his speech, Sonaram Sarmah Burha Bhakat urged people to keep the real theme of bhaona initiated by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev. Addressing the gathering, Tuwaram Khanikor said that due to use of excessive technology, people were confused between bhaona and theatre. As a result, the spirituality of bhaona was decreasing gradually. On this occasion, a souvenir Pinak, published and edited by Monuj Borah and Partha Protim Dohotia, was unveiled by Robin Saikia, Associate Professor, CKB College, Teok.
