DHUBRI: The History department of Sapatgram College and Ratnapith College, under the aegis of Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC) of the colleges with Career Counseling and Placement Cell, organized a three-day workshop on career counseling from July 11 to July 13.

The goal was to make the students aware of the opportunities after their graduation and also to make them familiar with the courses that generate employment. The workshop was inaugurated by Professor and Head, Department of History, Gauhati University, Prof. Rajeeb Handique.

While speaking on the subject, Prof. Handique lauded the efforts and stated that this three-day workshop had everything to offer to the aspirants who could keep up with the trends to ace the competition. As new career options emerge, new skills were needed in the industry and a student had to be aware of these advancements, Handique said.

Chairing the session, Principal of Sapatgram College, Dr. RP Singh opined that career counseling acted as a torchbearer for the whole workforce that could be made aware of the industrial changes in advance so as to hone their skills accordingly and be prepared for the upcoming changes.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, IQAC Coordinator, Sapatgram College, Dr. GK Saha said that the education system had become so complicated that new challenges like mental anxiety, stress, depression and financial problems had become a stumbling block in receiving quality education. At this time, it was important to understand what the education system was lacking, what were the gaps and how to cope up and move on from there and get the best out of this situation, Dr. Saha added.

Technical sessions saw experts ranging from administrators, academicians, professionals and research scholars who guided students regarding their career and different professions. The notable speakers were Associate Professor of History, Panchanan Barma University, West Bengal, Dr. Kartik Chandra Sutradhar, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate, West Karbi Anglong, Rajesh Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Faruque Ahmed, and Assistant Professor in History , Rupahi College, Nagaon, Dr. Chitrangita Gayan. Besides them, Principal of Goalpara College, Dr. Subhash Barman, and Principal of Ratnapith College, Chapar, Dr. Hitesh Chandra Kalita also graced the programme as guests and chairpersons.

The programme highlighted the vocational courses that generate employment. The programme also explored the opportunities in making the participants self-reliant after they complete their studies by introducing the idea of entrepreneurship. More than 70 participants took part in the workshop.
