HAFLONG: A joint meeting was called by the authority of North Cachar Hills Autonomous and the district administration with the apex bodies at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office, considering the seriousness of the effects of COVID-19 and witnessing the hesitation of people to take a jab of COVID vaccine, in Haflong on Saturday.
The meeting was presided over by NCHAC, Executive Member in-charge for Medical, Samuel Changsan and Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua, jointly in presence of NCHAC secretary in-charge Medical, Thai Tso Daulagupu, and other officials.
Briefing about the instruction of the Chief Minister regarding immediate steps to be undertaken for the vaccination drive, DC Paul Barua said that Assam was hopeful to complete vaccinating people by August. Representatives of all the apex bodies attended the meeting and also put forward their doubts and suggestions with regard to the vaccination drive in the district. The idea is to involve the civil society organizations in a more active role to complement the efforts of the government in making people aware about the importance of COVID vaccine and to do away with the rumours making rounds through various media.
A mega vaccination drive for three days is on the pipeline to begin from June 21 to June 23 where Dima Hasao has targeted to vaccinate 3,000 people per day i.e cumulatively 9,000 people in three days.
EM Changsan, while addressing the health, social and economic crisis caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, requested the representatives of the apex bodies to cooperate as that it was only through this collaborative effort that lives could be saved and the economy could keep running.
