Three drug peddlers arrested by Assam Police

Acting on a tip off, a team of Sootea police managed to apprehend three drug peddlers from Sootea Old Centre on Saturday afternoon and recovered three containers of drugs and two motorcycles from their possession.

JAMUGURIHAT: Acting on a tip off, a team of Sootea police managed to apprehend three drug peddlers from Sootea Old Centre on Saturday afternoon and recovered three containers of drugs and two motorcycles from their possession. The three apprehended drug peddlers were identified as Simanta Kumar Barua from Panibharal, Nihal Handique from Madhupur and Rishi Saikia from Garehagi, Biswanath Chariali. According to information, a special team of Sootea was tracing the drug peddlers from Khanamukh under Sonitpur district. The three youths had purchased drugs from a drug peddler at Khanamukh and proceeded to Biswanath Chariali. They stopped at Sootea Old Centre to take a dose of drugs at a shop.

The special team apprehended the drug addict and drug peddler youths at Sootea Old Centre and handed over them to Sootea police. It is noteworthy that they had purchased a total of eight containers of drugs but the police team had recovered only three containers of drugs and syringes while apprehending them at Sootea. The police team also recovered two motorcycles bearing registration numbers AS32B-0119 and AS12 P1810 from their possession. It is pertinent to mention here that illegal liquor trading and cases of drug peddling are on the rise at Sootea, Jamugurihat and in Itakhola area at present.
