MANGALDAI: Darrang Police in their continued series of operation against the organized notorious gang of drugs peddlers has made another achievement with the arrest of three more peddlers and recovered 15 grams of brown sugar and three tiny containers.

Taking a serious note on the increasing incidents of drugs peddling in different locations of the district in spite of the lockdown and despite the strict police vigil, Darrang Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuya entrusted Sub Inspector Dantejit Deuri to conduct operation against these organized gang of drug peddlers.

Accordingly, Sub Inspector Deuri of Mangaldai Police Station chalked out an action plan and posing as a buyer established contact with a drug peddler. As per the deal, Sub Inspector Deuri accompanied by police personal in plain cloth reached Dumunichowki under Sipajhar Police Station and at about 6 pm on July 31,caught all the three drugs peddlers red handed. The police team also recovered 15 grams of brown sugar concealed in one packet and three tiny containers. The police also seized the Hyundai car used by the arrested peddlers.

The arrested peddlers have been identified as Rupak Deka (42) of Agdola village, Rahul Ahmed (27) and Rahul Ali (21) of Ali Pub village all under Baihata Police Station in Kamrup (Rural) district.

Arrested Rupak Deka - a Master's Degree holder initially was a drug addict and later became a peddler. His wife is presently serving as a Branch Manager of a bank in Barak Valley. Significantly, arrested Rupak Deka has been tested COVID-19 positive during their medical tests at Mangaldai Civil Hospital.

Significantly all the arrested peddlers have been maintaining a good link with an international gang of drugs mafia.
