LAKHIMPUR,: Three more persons succumbed to COVID-19 in Lakhimpur district in the last 24 hours. They have been identified as Padma Chunkrang (40), resident of Amulapatti under Dhakuakhana town, Girish Saikia (79) of Narayanpur and Pradip Borah of Saboti (62) near North Lakhimpur town.
Padma Chunkrang died on Tuesday morning on the way at Gogamukh while he was shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh from the COVID ward of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH). On the other hand, the rest two persons breathed their last in AMCH. Girish Saikia was admitted to AMCH on May 10 while Pradip Borah was admitted on May 15.
On the other hand, a total of 130 fresh cases were detected in the district on Tuesday as per the result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test. Out of them 129 people of the district were found to be positive for COVID-19 as per RAT while one case was detected as per RTPCR Test result, reported from Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh.
On Monday, the District Health Department conducted the RAT upon 2,754 persons in eight COVID-19 Test Centres across the district, including North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital, Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic and other six Block Primary Health Centers (BPHCs). Out of them, the detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (3), Dhalpur BPHC (9), Bihpuriya BPHC (12), Naoboicha BPHC (14), Boginadi BPHC (55), Ghilamora BPHC (3), Dhakuakhana BPHC (9) and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (24). On this day, the Health Department of the district registered 85 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT in order to detect COVID-19 patients out of the targeted figure 3,430.
With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has surged to 10,760 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 9,453 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 1,225 active cases in the district at present. On Tuesday, 14 recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 97 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. A total of 2,620 people of the district tested positive for COVID-19 during the second wave of the contagion since April 1 of the current year. Out of them, 32 people succumbed to the pandemic raising the overall tally of the COVID-19 fatalities of the district up to 81.
