TINSUKIA: Though Tinsukia Municipality has notified parking places for two/four vehicles under Tinsukia municipal areas on Tuesday, the notification did not mention about unauthorized three wheeler e-rickshaws and autos that created traffic nuisance in the town. Further, the recently erected divider on GNB Road by the PWD department added more traffic chaos than easing it even as the municipality submitted written objection to the district authority, but to no avail.

With the creation of street vending zones, it is expected that fast food vendors that have mushroomed in front of Tinsukia Municipality and Thana Chariali to Prakash Bazar, will move to the designated zones after proper registration. Executive Officer Niluram Sarma told this correspondent that Tinsukia traffic needs to be streamlined in coordination with traffic police and transport department as the latter controls e-rickshaws and autos. There appears to be no regulatory mechanism to tame three-wheeler owners with licensees often flouting rules.

A source in the TMB said that since March 2020, when the functioning of municipal bodies was vested on executive officers, none of the Deputy Commissioners of Tinsukia had taken any interest in the civic affairs, even as there were ample opportunities to improve traffic, parking and other civic amenities, let alone dealing with alleged malfunctioning of municipal officials and NGOs associated with the office.
