Biswanath Chariali: In a successful operation, Biswanath police managed to recover four women along with a minor girl from Uttar Pradesh. On September 11, information was received in Gingia Police Station in Biswanath district that a married woman along with her seven-year old minor daughter of Kolbasti and two other married women of Samarbasti under Gingia PS had gone missing from their respective homes since early morning of August 24. The police suspected that the three married women and the minor girl were kidnapped by unknown persons.
Accordingly, Gingia PS case no 133/ 2020 u/s 365 IPC was registered and investigation started. During investigation, based on human intelligence and technical input, two persons allegedly involved in the crime were arrested from Mangaldoi PS area of Darrang district. They were identified as Haripad Mandal (32), son of Nirat Mandal of Mowamari Chapori village, and Fakir Ali (30), son of Johur Ali of Bongalfuta Chapori village under Mangaldoi Police Station.
Subsequently, based on their testimony coupled with technical evidence, it came to light that the four victims were staying in Nagla Masani locality under Delhi Gate Police Station of Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh. It was found to be a case of human trafficking. Sensing the gravity of the crime, a team of Biswanath District Police led by an Inspector along with women police constables were sent by flight and they reached Aligarh on September 30. With the assistance of Aligarh Police, all the four victims were recovered and brought back to Biswanath Chariali on Sunday. The statements of the victims were recorded u/s 164 Cr.PC in the court on Monday.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Biswanath District Police has achieved notable success of late. On September 21, a team of Biswanath district police recovered three women victims of human trafficking from Naharlagun of Papum Pare district in Arunachal Pradesh. In another case in the year 2019, Biswanath District Police recovered two minor girls from Yomcha under West Siang district and from Taksing village (located at a distance of only 3 km from the Indo-China border) under West Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh.
