Guwahati: It has been three years and the families of Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das are still waiting for justice. The duo was lynched at death on June 8 three years in Karbi Anglong's Dokmoka. Locals suspected them to be child lifters and a mob of at least 40 people thrashed them. The two boys succumbed to their injuries. The family members observed the death anniversary on June 4.

Speaking to the media, Abhijit Nath's father said, "Today marks the third anniversary of the Abhi-Neel murder. The moments still fresh in everyone's mind. But we feel that the judicial process of Nagaon Court has been very lax and lenient. The witness testimony process has not been completed in 3 years."

"We are getting frustrated day by day. The accused should be punished. Such incidents can happen anywhere, " he said.

Abhijit Nath's father urged the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take necessary action.

Several rounds of hearings have been held and those involved in the case were sent to judicial custody but no verdict yet.

In 2019 on this day, some locals of Dokmoka mistook the two boys to be child-abductors. They gheraoed their vehicle and when the boys tried to escape from the spot, the locals started to physically assault them. By the time police reached, the locals fled from the spot.
